A “green” hill amidst asphalt jungle
Recently, Heatherwick
Studios showed pictures of the “1000 Trees” project, which is near to complete
in Shanghai. As you might have understood, they will cover the whole building
with different kinds of plants to create something similar to a huge “green”
hill right in the center of modern metropolis.
The project
is divided into two hill-shaped multifunctional buildings, which include shops, office premises, snack
bars, venues for events and galleries.
A stepped
surface of the “hill” will be a safe house for hundreds of plants and trees in
giant planters of various shapes and sizes, located on the tops of concrete
columns. All columns are decorated with hand-crafted texture which looks spectacular
both from afar and close up.
In total,
about 25,000 selected plants of 46 different species, including bushes and
lichens. Each planter has a unique combination of plants, most of which are
evergreens, to provide burgeoning greenery throughout the year.
The second
phase of the project will also include large landscaped areas, including a
900-meter strip of public space on the banks of the river and a
12,000-square-meter landscape park with a jogging track, a sculpture garden and
a number of outdoor venues for events.
Every single
day brings us lots of jaw-dropping blueprints of the future, that change this
world for the better.
