A built-in hotel. New life for a granite quarry
The
construction of Songjiang InterContinental Hotel, which was built in a huge pit
of the former granite quarry is completed in Shanghai. Since twelve years, a
huge construction crew of architects, engineers and designers has presented an
astonishing hotel at the cost of $290 mln.
It has 18
floors in general; only two floors are on the surface, fourteen floors are
below the ground level and the other two left are completely under the water,
occupied by a restaurant and a luxury hotel apartments with a breathtaking
underwater scenery. The roof space is covered with recreation park that has stretched
to three thousand square meters
Total
complex area is 428 200 sq.m. with 336 hotel suites, spacious public areas
and conference rooms for up to 1000 people. The entire complex uses only
geothermal and solar energy, and special technologies for processing and
restoring natural water to preserve water resources. Architects managed to use
its unusual location and the surrounding landscape to the fullest, organizing
incredible entertainment for active guests: climbing, bungee jumping, water
sports.
